PERSONAL PROFILE

Mr Paliobeis has worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon since July 2010 and has developed his experience in Trauma, Lower Limb Surgery & Revision, Hip Arthroscopy and Young Adult Hip / Hip Preservation Surgery. He has also maintained his exposure to Musculoskeletal Oncology from his role as Sarcoma Lead for Wye Valley NHS Trust. Mr Paliobeis has maintained an extensive academic portfolio in research and teaching, presentations at international and national level, with publications in established, peer reviewed journals.

SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

 

Outpatient, ultrasound-guided hip injections: 
As a result of the successful completion of a PGCert, Mr Paliobeis is now performing a large number of hip injections on an outpatient basis, providing an efficient, high quality service to patients and a highly cost-efficient service for Wye Valley NHS Trust.

 

A Fellowship in Hip Surgery:
After completion of training, orthopaedic surgeons join a Hip specialist Fellowship in WVT to work with Mr Paliobeis with particular emphasis on Preoperative Planning using Templating Software, Hip preservation surgery, Research, Audit and Leadership skills.

A 7-minute video guide on hip arthroscopy created by Mr Paliobeis to train operating theatre personnel at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. It details the setup, positioning, prepping, draping & intraoperative manipulations. It also presents pitfalls and suggests an operating theatre floor plan. It proved to be a valuable tool in making hip arthroscopy lists safer and more efficient.

TEACHING

Known for his enthusiasm for teaching, Mr Paliobeis has maintained an extensive teaching portfolio. Not only does he regularly deliver teaching to a variety of audiences, from medical students to junior doctors to orthopaedic trainees and allied health professionals; he also has a genuine interest in developing team skills, specialist services and changing culture to improve patient services through teaching. With this in mind Mr Paliobeis has:

 

• Served on a world-renowned course from the role of a Hip Arthroscopy trainer for hip specialist consultant orthopaedic surgeons, since 2009.

 

• Authored the only chapter on Hip Arthroscopy in the 2014 textbook of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) which is the basis for the European Orthopaedic Specialty Exit Exam.

 

• Has regularly been teaching on the Birmingham Orthopaedic Specialty Training Programme.

 

• Organised West Midlands Deanery teaching days in Hereford for the Birmingham and the Oswestry/Stoke Orthopaedic Trainees.

 

• Organised after-hours training for the Hereford Orthopaedic team, theatre staff and allied health professionals.

 

• Delivered Lectures to GPs, trainees, theatre personnel, radiologists, radiographers, allied health professionals.

 

• Received Excellent feedback for his presentations, by the Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Programme Director, doctors in training, allied health professionals, GPs in Herefordshire & Worcestershire
